Interview with Joth riggs
Q: Joth, it’s great to chat with you. How many years have you been involved in the film business and how did you get started?
Thanks so much! I have been involved in film and television production for over 28 years, and first started making small movies with my buddies in high school. I loved it so much I decided to make a living at it. After attending film school, I was fortunate early on to find myself working for Steven Spielberg at Amblin Entertainment before being accepted into the coveted Director’s Guild Training Program, where I started working on dozens of projects as an Assistant Director for all the major studios.
Q: We’re excited about your new project, “Blindsided.” Tell us about the film.
Blindsided is a fun action/thriller starring Natasha Henstridge who plays a woman forced to hide the young daughter of a Columbian woman who, while in witness protection to testify against a powerful drug cartel in Federal Court, is being hunted down by ruthless sicarios.
Q: You’ve been involved with over eighty film and television projects. Were there specific challenges with Blindsided as compared to some of your other projects?
Well, every film project is unique and comes with it’s own set of challenges. In the case of Blindsided we had the added element of the story taking place during a category 5 hurricane, so that meant that we had to create hurricane force rains and wind on otherwise bright and sunny days – of course. Had we set the story in the sunshine, I’m certain it would have rained on us. But the benefit of creating these conditions was the authenticity from the actors as they had to battle the elements we created for them, giving us great performances.
Q: It was great seeing your film go through various stages of post-production here at Kappa. What were some of the most memorable moments you experienced during the post process?
The experience we had at Kappa was extremely positive. From editing to sound design to color, each step we took was met with skill and professionalism from the team. In the case of Blindsided, the most unique aspect of the post production process was having gone through it during a pandemic. A lot of it was done remotely, and when we had to be there in person, we all had masks and practiced safe, social-distancing. That was certainly a first for me, but we got through it all with no problems!
Q: How can people learn more about Blindsided?
Blindsided is currently in the hands of the distributors and will hopefully be out there for all the world some time very soon. In the mean time, you can follow the Facebook page, Blindsided the Movie, for updates on upcoming release dates.
