NOW POSTING AT KAPPA and airing on The CW, this outrageous, anything goes game show features people who are in shape and out of their minds, with the rules “no pushing and no running” thrown out the window. In “Oh Sit!” pushing and running are more or less mandatory, as a group of grown-up contestants accumulates cash values while navigating a demanding and elaborate obstacle course.

This is very possibly the most complex game show ever produced. A multitude of cameras in various formats strategically placed provide amazing coverage of the action. David Parkinson, post supervisor on the show for The Gurin Company, told Kappa they were in for a wild ride, with a very tight due date. Kappa Studios provided VFX/Compositing, color correction audio recording, extensive sound effects design and audio mixing.

Hosted by actor/comedian Jamie Kennedy (“The Ghost Whisperer”) and actress/television host Jessi Cruickshank (“MTV Live”), OH SIT! is a fun, high-stakes, high-octane musical chairs competition, in which 12 thrill-seeking daredevils race head to head through five physically demanding, obstacle course-style eliminations as they each compete to claim a chair, to the sounds of a live band.

At the end of the hour, only one contestant will be left sitting triumphant to seize the cash prize. Adding to the fun, Tanika Ray (“Extra”) is in the trenches with the contestants both on and off the track and adds color commentary from the sidelines as the action unfolds. OH SIT! is created and executive produced by Phil Gurin “The Singing Bee,” “Shark Tank,” “The Weakest Link”), Richard Joel and Deena Dill. The series is from The Gurin Company and 405 Productions in association with Warner Horizon Television.

The “Annoying Orange” hit animated series several shows into its first season on the Cartoon Network is achieving a very respectable rating of 7.4 making it the number one show in its time period among kids 6-11 and 9-14, plus all boys.

A combination of live-action RED Camera footage, graphics, and animation, the scenes are being edited, composited and color corrected at Kappa Studios in Burbank. Voice talent recording and mixing is also taking place at Kappa. Leading the Kappa digital compositing team is Patrick “FX” Murphy (Harry Potter, Clash of the Titans, Avatar, Superman Returns).

Creator Dane Boedigheimer said about the success of the show, “A lot of it is that Orange is a fun-loving character. All of his adventures and random things that happen to him come out of that he’s bored and wants to have fun,” Boedigheimer says. “Some people mistake Orange for a bully. That’s not Orange at all.”

An online hit has a built-in fan base that can communicate easily with the creator, says Gary Binkow, a partner at 14th Hour Productions, which produces the series. “We recognized early on that Dane had an amazingly high engagement level with his audience. He was crafting stories based on their responses, and I thought that was remarkable,” he says.

Dane Boedigheimer is the voice of Orange as well as several other characters. Joining him are seasoned talents Felicia Day (Clash of the Titans), Harland Williams (Dumb and Dumber), Phil LaMarr (Family Guy), and cameo appearances by William Shatner, James Caan and others.

Kappa president Paul Long says, “We’ve had a long term strategic partnership with Adobe Systems and with their collaboration we have built a unique workflow for Annoying Orange based on Adobe’s Creative Suite 6. It was the first use of the then unreleased software in a real life situation. We are doing something that has never been attempted before, and it has given us the opportunity to stretch out and use our experience with RED cameras combined with our full range of post capabilities on one project.

KAPPA STUDIOS is a full-service post-production facility featuring complete picture and sound packages for television and digital cinema, visual effects, animation services, a Dolby-certified dubbing stage, digital file management, closed caption transcription and encoding, and a CGI graphics department. KAPPA STUDIOS is also host and co-founder of RED User Group LA and RED Boot Camp.

Kappa Studios in Burbank is currently tackling all the visual effects, compositing, off-line, on-line and audio for “The Annoying Orange” animated series for the Cartoon Network. The show is a television adaptation of the amazingly popular web series of the same name with over one billion hits at last count. Created by Dane Boedigheimer in 2009 the show will debut on The Cartoon Network June 11th.

Produced by 14th Hour Productions this very offbeat and edgy animation comedy series features Orange who is the lead protagonist, or antagonist, as he literally annoys other characters (typically other fruit or vegetables) until their death. Orange has appeared in every episode since the web series began on October 9, 2009. He has yellow teeth, gray eyes, and a braying laugh. His standard reply, uttered after being taken to task for being so annoying, is: “No, I’m not. I’m an orange.”

We have always worked on visual effects and animation at Kappa, and this experience has been invaluable in helping us build the complex post pipeline for this unique show.”

The Burbank post facility is completing picture and sound work for twenty-one half hour shows depicting law enforcement in the Cajun bayous and swamps of Louisiana.

Produced for the A&E Network by MAK Pictures “Cajun Justice,” a new original real-life series that follows the officers of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office enforcing law in a world where the sheriff is like a king, and no police call is routine. Executive producers are Ken Arlidge, Mark Kadin and Ken Reichling. David McKillop and Laura Fleury are executive producers for A&E.

“‘Cajun Justice’ is a character-driven docudrama unlike any other nonfiction cop show,” David McKillop, Executive Vice President of Programming for A&E, said. “We are thrilled to introduce viewers to this fascinating, strange and dangerous world they have never seen before.”

Sheriff Vernon Bourgeois Jr. and the deputies of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office are charged with serving and protecting over 2,000 square miles of treacherous swampland in Southern Louisiana. Located 45 miles south of New Orleans, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’’s Office investigates thousands of incidents every year. With the fiery personalities of the local Cajuns and the Louisiana justice system unlike any other (it’s the only state that is ruled under Napoleonic law), there’s no such thing as an ordinary police call.

Kappa president Paul Long says, “We’ve been working on reality shows for quite a while, but Cajun Justice is like no other show we’ve seen. It’s probably the quirkiest, most unusual crime docudramas we’ve encountered and we are having a lot of fun working on it.”

Produced by GRB Entertainment the show debuts on CMT this Thursday, September 15th. This uplifting series is hosted by TV personality and Daytime Emmy Award winner Elisabeth Hasselbeck. The show focuses on everyday men and women who believe they were delivered from tragedy through angelic encounters. The true-life stories are told through interviews with the survivors, eye-witness accounts and reenactments. Ranging from catastrophic car crashes to tornadoes, debilitating illnesses and the biggest terrorist attack in U.S. history, the show focuses on the tales of triumph told in the survivors’ own words.

The debut episode of ANGELS AMONG US commemorates the 10-year anniversary of 9/11, featuring Genelle Guzman-McMillan, Ron DiFrancesco and John Yates, whose lives were forever changed when terrorists attacked the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Guzman-McMillan was on the 13th floor of World Trade Tower One when it collapsed on top of her. As hope faded, she believes an angel held her hand until she became the last victim pulled from the rubble 27 hours later. DiFrancesco was one of only four people survivors from above the impact zone of Tower Two, escaping death after he heard an otherworldly voice urging him to run into the fire. At the Pentagon, Yates pushed through massive injuries towards safety with the help of something extraordinary.

ANGELS AMONG US is produced by Emmy Award-winning GRB Entertainment (“Intervention,” “Aftermath With William Shatner,” and “Untold Stories of the ER”), with Gary R. Benz, Michael Branton and Tammy Wood serving as executive producers. Melanie Moreau and Jayson Dinsmore are executive producers for CMT
Kappa Studios is providing picture finishing, color correction, and audio mixing.

Heidi Klum is not only a superstar fashion model she is a loving mother of four children. “Seriously Funny Kids” is a major departure from Klum’s Emmy Award-nominated series “Project Runway,” this year’s number one competitive unscripted program among major demographic segments. Heidi was recently named one of “The World 100 Most Powerful Women.”

When asked about the show Klum said “Someone once said ‘Never work with children and animals’… so I decided to drop the animals and stick with the kids. Naptime, playtime and snack time are my favorites, so is it any wonder that kids and I get along so well?” She went on to say, “The kids will be the absolute stars of this show.”

Kappa has a long history of working on family oriented programming. Kappa president Paul Long said, “We are very proud to be part of this show. When you combine well produced entertainment with the natural appeal of children it is a natural winner.”

The Hub, the new cable network is launching in the United States this week and it’s starting off with a big splash. The Hub is a co-venture between Discovery and Hasbro and replaces Discovery Kids. The two new “flagship” family game shows mainly targeted at children: Pictureka! and Family Game Night are based on existing Hasbro board game products. The main aim of Pictureka! (from Ellman Entertainment) is to, over a couple of rounds, play games based on finding hidden objects to score points. Teams consist of two kids and a parent playing to win the grand prize. You can catch Pictureka! every weekday at 4 PM ET on The Hub.
Family Game Night (produced by Zoo Productions) features two teams of four (mom, dad and siblings) competing in five mini-games based on Hasbro’s Family Game Night line of board games adapted for TV. The prizes up for grabs also let you know that there’s a bit of an investment here. Not only does the family who wins each game get a family-oriented prize like a kayak or a camping package, but they also get to pick one of 21 Monopoly “Crazy Cash” ATM cards ranging from a few dollars to over $10,000. The show airs every Friday at 7 PM ET.
Kappa provided both picture and sound services for the two shows as well as the deliverable dubs. Kappa’s president Paul Long has this to say: “We have a long history of posting game shows and because of today’s production environment we have become experts at perfecting post production logistics that save time and money for everyone.”

Kappa Studios, Inc. has just completed picture and sound finishing on the docu-series Double Exposure airing on Bravo. The show follows renowned art and fashion photographers Markus Klinko and former model Indrani (ex-wife of Markus), along with high-end stylist GK Reid. The show gives viewers a taste of the fast-paced world of high fashion and celebrity photography with a sometimes tense undercurrent of conflict and artistic differences.

Markus and Indrani have shot virtually every contemporary boldface name and countless other iconic images for fashion campaigns and magazines. With two former lovers working together 18 hours a day in incredibly high-stress environments, filled with deadlines, stretched budgets, expensive locations and demanding talent, it’s not unusual for sparks to fly both on camera and outside the frame. Double Exposure is produced by Juma Entertainment with Bob Horowitz and Lewis Fenton serving as executive producers. Jason Bryan is Line Producer.

Kappa was able to keep this complex show on schedule and on budget through its ability to use multiple HD edit bays and double shifts when needed. Kappa’s president Paul Long has this to say: “Because of today’s production environment, we have become experts at perfecting post production logistics that save time and money for everyone. Double Exposure airs on Bravo this summer.

The latest theatrical feature posted by Kappa is Unrequited which tells the story of Ben Jacobs, a troubled young man who, on his 18th birthday, must leave the group home where he has been living for the past several months. After moving back in with his mother, Ben discovers that his girlfriend is now dating an older college guy. Desperate for love and unable to cope with losing Jessica, Ben’s troubled past catches up with him as he kidnaps her in an attempt to regain her affection. Events do not improve.

The film is being distributed worldwide by Arclight and was produced by Jeff Day and Tom Lockridge of Lucky Day Studios. The company is unusual in that it not only wants to make successful films but it also encourages college and university students to serve as interns and apprentices working side-by-side with industry professionals. Jason Epperson, from On The Lot, a joint venture created by Steven Spielberg and Mark Burnett, directed the picture.

Kappa’s Digital Intermediate Supervisor Igor Ridanovic used the Avid DS to assemble and color correct the picture. Ridanovic has this to say: “The combination of the DS and our Samsung projector provides a powerful team of color grading tools. This is a theatrical feature, so seeing it in a theater like environment is extremely helpful.” Kappa’s lead mixer Humberto Zamores supervised the audio editing and mixed the 5.1 audio in its Dolby certified dub stage.
